On Twitter on Wednesday (Aug. 16), Blake Shelton was among those reacting to the speech given by Susan Bro, the mother of Charlottesville victim Heather Heyer, at Heyer’s memorial service. The country star praised Bro for her words, and urged his fans and followers to pay attention to what she said.

“Incredible words from Heather Heyer’s mother Susan Bro,” Shelton tweeted. “If you missed it, look for it. What a strong and inspiring person.”

Heyer, 32, was killed on Saturday (Aug. 12), during a counter-protest against the white supremacists, white nationalists, Ku Klux Klan members and neo-Nazis rallying in Charlottesville, Va., when a speeding car struck another car, then ran through the gathered crowd, also injuring 19 others. The Charlottesville resident was honored Wednesday, at a crowded service.

“I think the reason that what happened to Heather has struck a chord is because we know that what she did is achievable,” Bro said during her speech. “We don’t all have to die. We don’t all have to sacrifice our lives. They tried to kill my child to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her.”

Shelton is one of a number of country artists to share thoughts about the Charlottesville rally, its counter-protest and Heyer’s death. Jason IsbellMargo PriceMaren Morris, the Brothers Osborne and more condemned the gathering, while Kip Moore was especially vocal, urging his fans and followers to spread kindness and take care of each other and sharing his thoughts on growing up in Georgia and seeing racism spread.
