Blake Shelton’s ‘Came Here to Forget’ Earns Video Shootout Hall of Fame Spot

Blake Shelton's "Came Here to Forget" music video is the newest inductee into The Boot's Video Shootout Hall of Fame. The Boot's readers voted the country superstar's clip to victory in four consecutive Video Shootouts, earning "Came Here to Forget" the honor.

In early April, Shelton bested one-week Shootout champion Chris Stapleton and his powerful “Fire Away” music video, as well as Frankie Ballard‘s “It All Started With a Beer” clip, to earn his first Video Shootout victory. That week, Shelton received nearly 90 percent of votes. In his second week in the Shootout, Shelton again earned a decisive victory, this time over Sam Outlaw‘s “Angeleno” and Earl Dibbles Jr.‘s “Merica” music videos.

“Girl, you gettin’ over him, and I’m gettin’ over her / The eyes have it made, ain’t gotta say a word,” Shelton sings in first two lines of "Came Here to Forget." Although the artist didn’t write “Came Here to Forget” himself — Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan did — he calls it “a direct look into my life.”

Jake Owen‘s “American Country Love Song” video gave "Came Here to Forget" a run for its money during its third week in the Video Shootout, but Shelton once again managed a win against Owen and Sturgill Simpson‘s “Brace for Impact (Live a Little)” clip. Shelton's final victory came against Kelsea Ballerini (“Peter Pan”) and Eric Paslay (“High Class”).

“Came Here to Forget” is the first single from Shelton’s forthcoming new album, If I’m Honest, set for release on May 20. The song is available for download on iTunes.
