Blake Shelton emerged from a pack of big-name superstars to take home Album of the Year at the 2013 CMA Awards for 'Based on a True Story.'

Shelton had won Song of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Musical Event of the Year in the past, but this was his first CMA victory for best album. 'Based on a True Story' has produced the hits 'Sure Be Cool If You Did,' 'Boys Round Here' and 'Mine Would Be You.'

"I mentioned earlier that if there was one award that would mean the most to be tonight, it would be Album of the Year," Shelton said after accepting the trophy from Sheryl Crow. Shelton beat out Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Little Big Town and Kacey Musgraves to capture the award.
