Nine-time Grammy winners Asleep at the Wheel will soon have another prestigious trophy for the case. The band, founded by Ray Benson more than 35 years ago, are this year's recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Americana Honors and Awards ceremony.

"I can't think of a more deserving outfit for this award," past recipient Willie Nelson tells GAC. "Our Ray Benson will leave a mark. He's been a lot of places, done a lot of things and recorded it all."

Asleep at the Wheel recently collaborated with Willie on 'Willie and the Wheel,' an album that also features Vince Gill and Paul Shaffer. The project has received widespread critical acclaim and been a mainstay on the charts since its debut in February.

The Americana Awards will be held September 17 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
