The Boot is pleased to introduce singer-songwriter Ashley Riley, who performs Gillian Welch's "Look at Miss Ohio" with Micah Walk from the band the Deep Hollow for April's Guest Room Sessions installment.

The two singers recorded this Guest Room Sessions clip on the loading dock at the back of the music store where Walk is employed. It features, simply, them and their acoustic guitars.

"I met Micah about three years ago when we were both booked at an in-the-round songwriters night at a venue in Springfield, Ill.," Riley, a native of Decatur, Ill., tells The Boot. "He's a really talented guy, and I thought our musical tastes and styles would align well for this performance."

Since the two artists live about one hour away from each other, they prepped their performance via text. Though they bounced a handful of songs back and forth, they decided on Welch's "Look at Miss Ohio," from her 2003 album Soul Journey, because they "both know it really well, and it's definitely a classic in our musical worlds."

"You just can't go wrong with a Gillian Welch tune," Riley adds.

"Oh me, oh my, oh, look at Miss Ohio / She’s a-running around with the ragtop down / She says I wanna do right, but not right now," Riley and Walk sing.

The Deep Hollow's next album is set for release on April 29, and Riley's newest disc, Through the Thin, dropped on April 8. Through the Thin is a 13-track record that covers topics ranging from holding on to letting go, giving in to giving up ... and finding peace.

“This album really encompasses everything that I do," Riley says in a press statement, "from the really slow ballads to full-on rock songs."

More information about Riley's music and upcoming shows can be found on her official website.
