Ashley McBryde and her family are mourning the death of her brother Clay. The 53-year-old died at home on Wednesday (June 20) in Russellville, Ark.

According to his obituary, Clay McBryde -- full name William Clayton McBryde Jr., after his father -- was born on May 22, 1965. A graduate of Waldron High School and Arkansas Tech University, he served more than four years in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Iraq, and was an officer with the Russellville Police Department for 25 years. McBryde had recently married his wife Tanya, in November of 2017.

Ashley McBryde has not said much about her brother's death on social media, other than to thank her bandmates for "[holding] me up through something I couldn't even imagine ... [and] getting me to my family as fast as we can do it." In a separate post, she shares that her nephew -- Clay's son Bradley -- has asked that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their condolences make donations in Clay's name to Mission 22. The non-profit organization works to raise awareness of and put an end to veteran suicide by, among other things, funding treating me PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Services for Clay McBryde were held on Monday (June 25). He is survived by his wife and son; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; two sisters, including Ashley McBryde, and a brother-in-law; and his father. He also leaves behind a grandson, an aunt and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ashley McBryde has a number of tour dates on her calendar for this summer, and will launch her headlining Girl Going Nowhere Tour in September. She released her debut album, Girl Going Nowhere, in March.
