Independence Day celebrating will start a bit early for military personnel and their families stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.. Alan Jackson will put on a special show on Saturday, June 30, in honor of the July 4 holiday, with Gloriana and Easton Corbin also on the bill.

The 53-year-old country legend will undoubtedly play “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning),” which he wrote in the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attacks on September 11. “After 9/11, I played at the Pentagon and sang ‘Where Were You’ sitting there looking at survivors that were still bandaged up, with their families and the people who died,” Alan recounts to The Boot. “Those are some tough shows. But at the same time, it makes you feel good if people get something out of it.”

The Grand Ole Opry member is currently out on the road, promoting his latest CD, Thirty Miles West, which was released earlier this month. The project’s debut single, “So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore,” is in the chart’s Top 30 and climbing. The song, Alan reveals, struck a chord with him the first time he heard it.

“Well, at first it raised the hair on my arms, when I heard the demo,” he tells The Boot. “It was a really good version, too. It was one of those songs that, when I heard it, it’s the kind of song that made me want to be in country music. I’m such a big fan of that kind of song. Sad songs, or break-up songs, and heartache songs are always the best ones to bring that emotion out and are actually the easiest to write as a writer.”

Tickets for the 7:00 PM show are available to the public, and can be purchased here.

Alan will play in Colorado tonight (June 28) and Texas tomorrow night, before heading to Oklahoma. Keep track of his concert schedule here.
