Brooklyn-based four-piece Cricket Tell the Weather are debuting their music video for their cover of Regina Spektor’s “Samson” exclusively for readers of The Boot.

Released on the pop-folk chanteuse's 2001 album Songs, “Samson” is a track that's perfectly suited for Cricket Tell the Weather. Lead singer Andrea Asprelli’s own vocal quality is as unique as Spektor’s, which adds a haunting feel, and with the addition of banjo and fiddle, the result is irresistible.

"Regina Spektor's original "Samson" is sung slowly and beautifully, and I love how it colors and shapes the Samson story with an equally mysterious, more personal narrative,” explains Asprelli. “Double-timing the rhythm underneath the vocals made it fit for old-time fiddle."

Cricket Tell the Weather filmed their "Samson" music video -- a live performance of the song -- "on a sweltering summer day in Brooklyn's Prospect Park." Readers can press play on the video above to watch.

Winners of the 2013 FreshGrass Award, Cricket Tell the Weather seamlessly blend contemporary interpretation and good old-fashioned bluegrass picking. Alongside Asprelli, the band features a rotating “collective cast” of musicians, including multiple guitarists, bassists and banjo players.

“Samson” will be included on Cricket Tell the Weather’s sophomore album, Tell the Story Right, set for release on Sept. 6. The project is available for pre-order via iTunes and Amazon, and additional information about the band can be found on their official website.
