The Academy of Country Music announced the majority of 2016 ACM Awards nominees on Feb. 1, but two categories were missing: Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. On Thursday (Feb. 18), the Academy revealed the finalists in those two categories, with artists such as Cam, Chris Stapleton and Eric Paslay among the nominees.

This year, a panel of professional, award-winning songwriters helped the ACM select Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year nominees. Their selections were then voted on by the Composer class of ACM members, determining the final list of nods.

“The ACM Board of Directors recently voted to revise the prestigious Song of the Year Award criteria to allow the greater songwriting community a stronger voice in determining the final nominees,” explains Tiffany Moon, executive vice president and managing director of the Academy of Country Music. “Songwriters are at the inception of all of this; we’re privileged to have their expertise in choosing the most well-crafted songs.”

The 2016 ACM Awards are set to air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 3, beginning at 8PM ET on CBS.
