Wade Hayes is "getting a little better every day," he tells Taste of Country. The 42-year-old country singer is battling stage IV colon cancer, which has reportedly spread to his liver. He had surgery Dec. 8 at Nashville's Vanderbilt University Hospital and was discharged Dec. 17 to recover at home. Wade is happy to report the surgery went better than expected, and he's now resting comfortably.

"Thank you all very much for your prayers and well wishes," he says in a special holiday message to fans on his website. "I really appreciate it."

Best known for his classic hit, 'Old Enough to Know Better,' Wade had a string of hits in the mid-'90s before teaming up with Mark McClurg in the short-lived duo, McHayes. The Oklahoma native's most recent solo album, 'A Place to Turn Around,' was released in 2009.

There's no word yet on Wade's prognosis. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the talented musician for a speedy recovery.
