The colors pink and blue have been foremost in Dierks Bentley's musical journey these past few days. Tuesday morning (Sept. 27) found the singer in a Nashville recording studio rehearsing rock band Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' with his band. The singer will perform the tune Thursday (Sept. 29) on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' in tribute to the British rockers.

By noon, Dierks was at the historic Ryman Auditorium, where he performed with Del McCoury, who will be inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame today (Sept. 29). Later, Dierks headed for a bar called Losers to celebrate his No. 1 single, 'Am I the Only One,' with his co-writers, Jim Beavers and Jon Randall.

"Yeah it's bizarre," Dierks admitted to The Boot just prior to his No. 1 party. "My day has been so weird, but it's typical of what I've been lucky enough to be able to do in Nashville. I feel really blessed to be able to walk in all those different circles."

Dierks' performance with Del was no stretch for the singer, who has performed and recorded with the bluegrass legend several times over the past few years. The association with Pink Floyd may seem a bit more of a stretch, but the Arizona native says it's a natural fit.

"I was born in 1974, and my sister is three years older than me, so all that '80s music is nostalgic to me," he explains. "Country music is 90 percent of what I've listened to since I was 17 years old, but Pink Floyd is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. A buddy of mine plays in the band for Pearl Jam, and another buddy plays with the Foo Fighters. These bands are awesome, and to be on this project with them is exciting. We'll put some fiddle and steel guitar on 'Wish You Were Here' and Gram Parsons it up and see how it goes."

As for the No. 1 party, Dierks says he was excited about having it at Losers, a place similar to Silverado, the bar mentioned in 'Am I the Only One.' "We would have had it at Silverado, but they shut it down because there was a shooting there not too long ago," he explained. "Losers is close to Music Row and easier to get to for everybody, so we thought it would be a fun thing to do, to have it here."

The tune is a fun summer anthem that's been a big hit during Dierks' live shows. "I put a picture up on Twitter from a show I did in Minnesota the other night, of a girl literally upside down while she was crowd surfing. "Her boots are up in the air and the rest of her body is buried somewhere in the crowd, and that happened while we were performing 'Am I the Only One.'

"We sing it about three songs into the show because it asks 'Am I the only one who wants to have fun tonight,' so you can't close with it. We try to start the show out with a lot of energy, but when we get to that song it creates a reaction that takes the energy level even higher. Jim, Jon and I wrote several verses to the song that didn't make it on the record, so I've been introducing some of those verses to the crowd in our live shows and they love it."

Dierks will perform 'Wish You Were Here' on NBC's 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' tonight. The talk show host is honoring Pink Floyd all this week, with other guests including Foo Fighters, the Shins, MGMT and Pearl Jam.
