Miranda Lambert is now happily married to the love of her life, Blake Shelton, but the Texas native admits she wasn't sure they would ever make it to the altar.

"I knew he was married," she confesses to NBC's 'Dateline,' regarding their initial meeting, performing together as part of a CMT special. "I didn't know what to do with it. It was my first duet with some other country star, and I didn't know if it was initial butterflies because of that ... I don't know what it was. It was just this draw to each other."

The 27-year-old admits she was afraid of the consequences of pursuing a relationship with someone else's spouse. "I knew better, like, this is off limits," she notes. "My parents are private investigators for God's sake. I've seen this my whole life -- affairs. Of all people to know better, I know better than this."

"I've never had that kind of experience with anybody," Blake revealed in an episode of VH1's 'Behind the Music.' "I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, 'Man, this shouldn't be happening.' Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage."

Blake married Kaynette Williams in 2003 and filed for divorce in February of 2006. The split was not final by the time he met Miranda, but the two didn't start dating until afterward. Still, even after his divorce, the 'Honey Bee' singer began pursuing his fellow country star with a bit of trepidation. "[The divorce] was the worst experience of my life," Blake says. "Nothing was worth risking that again. I wanted to be really sure this time, and I wanted Miranda to be really sure."

Now, after a five-year courtship, the twosome are enjoying life as newlyweds -- even if it means more household chores than Miranda's used to. "It took me a while to adjust to the fact that I'm gonna be a wife, do laundry and dishes," she concedes. "I cook a lot. I don't cook so healthy, but we're working on that. We're working on healthy recipes. Blake's favorite thing that I cook is two things: hamburger steak, and also when we were home a couple weeks ago, we made chicken fried venison with gravy. It was delicious."

The happy couple are getting ready to spend even more time together, when they hit the studio to co-produce good friend -- and wedding singer -- Neal McCoy's next album. Miranda is wrapping up her Revolution tour, while she anticipates the release of her next album, 'Four the Record,' on November 1, and promotes her new trio, Pistol Annies.
