Darius Rucker wants to wish you a very happy birthday -- year, after year, after year ...

The country star has teamed up with the American Cancer Society's More Birthdays campaign, an initiative to promote cancer awareness, healthy living and most importantly, cancer survival.

"I wanted to get involved because cancer affects everybody. Cancer is such a devastating thing," Darius tells The Boot. "The American Cancer Society is working hard to make it so there's less cancer and more birthdays."

Darius is one in an eclectic mix of celebrities who have made their own videos for the More Birthdays website. "My part is just to sing a special 'Happy Birthday' in this new video," he explains of his a cappella performance in the video below. "We all sing different versions of 'Happy Birthday' -- Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban -- they all did it, too. It's a great group of people doing something for a great cause."

Cancer hits particularly close to home in the Rucker household. Darius' father-in-law and niece are both battling the disease. "It's been pretty tough," says the singer, who lives in Charleston, S.C. with his three children and wife of ten years, Beth.

This year, Darius' father-in-law and niece will join 11 million other cancer survivors in celebrating another birthday. The American Cancer Society is fighting to make sure they'll blow out more candles for years to come.

"They want to do more than just awareness; they want to help people stay healthy," Darius says of the More Birthdays campaign, which promotes cancer research and active ways to fight the disease. "Birthdays are even more of a reason to celebrate life. I hope that the people who hear my 'Happy Birthday' song remember life is precious."
