Ty Herndon Will ‘Journey On’ to Combat ALS

Ty Herndon's song 'Journey On' has taken on new meaning for a good cause. The recent Grammy nominee has partnered with former NFL player Kevin Turner to raise awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, and its emerging connection to athletes who suffer from repeated head trauma.

'Journey On' has been named the signature song and video for the Kevin Turner Foundation and its ALS awareness campaign. Kevin, who was diagnosed with ALS in May 2010, was compelled to work with Ty after hearing the song at an ALS benefit concert.

"As an artist, you always dream of working on a project that makes a positive difference in the world," Herndon says. "However, I had no idea that working with Kevin Turner and his amazing family would make such a difference in myself and everyone involved in this very special project. Wow! It is my hope and prayer that this song and video will raise awareness about ALS to help The Kevin Turner Foundation reach its goal. And that goal is a cure."

Kevin shares his story in the song's video, which was filmed at a Nashville football stadium in September. "Making the video was a new and exciting experience for me," Kevin says. "The fact that my kids were a part of it as well made it infinitely more significant. 'Journey On' is the calling card for the Kevin Turner Foundation, and we hope that its message goes far and wide to raise money and awareness in our fight to find a cure for ALS."

This seems like a natural progression for a song that is the title track of an album inspired by spirituality. "There was so much I wanted to say to fit where I find myself spiritually and emotionally, and I wanted to sing about that," Ty says. "When I was singing songs that someone else had written, I found that I wasn't in my strongest voice. I am very, very proud of this record."

The video will be available iTunes beginning Monday, Dec. 13. All proceeds will benefit the Kevin Turner Foundation.

Ty's album 'Journey On' is always making waves, as it was just nominated for the Grammys' Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album of the Year.
