Willie Nelson may soon be a Nobel Peace Prize holder, if John Mellencamp has anything to do with it. The rock icon suggested that the country icon be nominated for the prize during a radio interview on the Sirius XM radio show, 'Willie's Place,' earlier this year. And fans were listening ... in a big way. A group of them followed Mellencamp's cue by starting a viral campaign on Facebook, titling their page 'Nobel Peace Prize for Willie Nelson for Farm Aid.' So far, the site has been 'liked' by more than 6,500 people. The campaign has also surfaced on numerous other sites, including a Neil Young fansite, where fans interested in supporting the movement can view a video that features previous Nobel winners.

Fans feel Willie should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on agriculture issues, alternative fuels and world peace initiatives. A longtime supporter of the family farms in America, he founded the Farm Aid concert program over 25 years ago, and has also started the Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute, an organization dedicated to helping promote global peace.

Willie has also been an avid supporter of the protection of wild horses, working on behalf of the animals as Tennessee and other states try to legalize the slaughter of horses. He supports the federal Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, which would ban horse slaughter in the U.S. and stop the current practice of exporting horses out of the country for slaughter in Mexico and Canada.

And if his constant humanitarian efforts weren't enough, Willie continues to tour and perform non-stop. He'll be one of the performers early next year on the new 'Austin City Limits' stage, when the show moves from its longtime home at KLRU's Studio 6A to its new location at the Moody Theater in February. Willie is scheduled to play on the longest running music series in American history on February 13 and 14. Over the past 36 years, more than 800 artists have been taped to appear on the legendary show. Austin City Limits' new location, the Moody Theater, is appropriately located at 310 Willie Nelson Boulevard.
