Carrie UnderwoodIt has been five years since Carrie Underwood took home the crown as the winner of the fourth season of 'American Idol.' A couple of months later, she appeared at her first CMA Music Festival in Nashville. She absorbed all of the sights and sounds, and at times, it was so overwhelming, she had that deer-in-headlights look about her. But over the years, she became more comfortable with the attention she receives from her fans ... simply because she has gotten to know them.

"There's much more of a relationship with me and the fans, because in the beginning it was like, 'Oh, we saw her on TV,'" Carrie tells The Boot. "It wasn't like there was a background repertoire kind of 'I have her CD. I've seen her in concert. I've followed her.' It was so instant in the beginning, and now I feel like we kind of have a relationship. I feel like I can enjoy it a lot more because I was so in shock in the beginning."

Carrie performed a rocking set at Nashville's LP Field on Thursday night for CMA Music Fest. The field was looking great, but it was just a little over a month ago that it was completely under water, due to the devastating floods that hit the Nashville area.

The stadium was just one of many downtown Music City venues that had to go through a huge cleanup before welcoming fans to Music Fest. But luckily, it's back to business as usual.

"If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't know anything is different, which is great," Carrie says. "Because people still come out and have a good time and you drive around downtown, and there are people everywhere. And it just shows you that we are playing on. I know that happens to be my album title and its Nashville's theme right now. Coincidence? I think not. [laughs] It's just great to see everybody just keep on doing what we do, and that's just what we know. We can't let a little water stop us."

Carrie takes her show to Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday, June 12 and Lexington, Ky., on Sunday, June 13.
