Carrie Underwood, Mike FisherCarrie Underwood's boyfriend, hockey player Mike Fisher, is a huge fan of his girlfriend's songs. But he admits he doesn't always get the reaction he wants when he belts out one of her tunes.

"I like to sing," the Ottawa Senators player tells The Sens Show (quote via PEOPLE). "[But] when I try to sing some of her songs, she just laughs!"

The couple, who met at her concert in Toronto a year ago, try to squeeze in time together whenever they can. "Obviously it's tough with our schedules to see each other," he says. "But we always find a way to make it work." His girlfriend, he adds proudly, is "very committed, and she works extremely hard. She doesn't get too many days off -- a lot less days off than I get. She's always going."

While she may be one of country's reigning superstars, Mike says it's another style of music Carrie sings that is his personal favorite. "She can sing anything -- I like it when she sings a good rock song."

No word yet if Carrie's beau will accompany the double nominee to the CMA Awards, but she'll be busy serving double duty as host and performer. The 43rd annual CMA Awards will air live on Nov. 11 on ABC.
